Sunseeker introduces advanced stabilisation technology
Following extensive research of the market to find the best stabilisation at rest system currently available, Sunseeker International now offers the TRAC-STAR system as an option on the Yacht range from 82 feet and above. TRAC-STAR is a development on the TRAC Digital Stabilizer system from Arcturus Marine, manufacturers of TRAC andArcturus Marine/American Bow Thruster products. Currently under construction, the first 37 Metre Tri- Deck Yacht and 90' Yacht will both have the TRAC-STAR system fitted.
According to the company's Design and Technical Director, John Braithwaite, there's a growing interest among Yacht clients in the option of a stabilisation at rest system to further improve the comfort and performance of each motoryacht. “With a reputation for performance engineering, sea handling comfort and quality at all levels we constantly strive to identify and incorporate new enhancements that deliver positive improvements to the design and performance of our products. One area that has seen great improvements is that of Stabilisation at Rest — the restriction of roll and tilt when a vessel is at anchor, moored or while drifting,” he said.TRAC-STAR is one of a number of different systems available, utilizing various approaches and degrees of operation.
Stabilisation underway and at rest is achieved by way of two active stabiliser units, each with computer designed shaped fins and aerospace-technology winglets. The exclusive TRAC winglets dramatically reduce tip vortex and drag and increase lift. The fin's angle of attack is adjusted over 200 times per second to create roll countering lift the instant it is detected. The benefits of this system, compared to others, are that it provides optimum stabilisation at rest, along with maximum performance when underway. The TRAC system automatically adjusts to any sea state and is controlled via a dedicated simple touch-screen LCD display in the wheelhouse.
